Njerenje Curriculum

Curriculum

Primary School - Grade 1 to 7.

 -Cambridge primary school curriculum is used - with certain adaptations to the Mozambican situation.

 -Core subjects are:
  • Maths
  • English
  • Environmental Science (which includes Geography, Biology, Physics and Chemistry)
  • Art and Craft
  • Portuguese
  • Computers

IMPORTANT Pupils must achieve the required standard in each grade before proceeding to the next grade.

-In Grade 7 pupils write a secondary school entrance exam, before proceeding to high school.

  
Secondary School

 Grade 8 to 12

First 2 years

(Grade 8 and 9) students do core subjects:
  • Maths
  • Geography
  • Information Technology
  • English
  • Environmental Management
  • Accounts & Bookkeeping
  • Art
  • Science. Biology/Physics/Chemistry
  • Office procedures
  • Business Finance
  • Business Studies

Third year- after discussion with the parents and the pupil a career directed portfolio is devised in two basic directions

a) Academic

b) Commercial ( A Design and Technology course will be added as soon as possible - as a third option)
To pursue an ACADEMIC CAREER OPTION

Students have to : - do at least 5 subjects at CAMBRIDGE ORDINARY LEVEL

followed by a 2 year ADVANCED LEVEL course in at least 5 AS-level subjects.

(AS-level - Subsidiary-level is between O-and A-level.) This will qualify them for university entrance.

Subjects offered at O-level are:
  • Maths
  •  English
  • Art and Design 
  • Geography  
  • Environmental Management 
  • Biology  
  • Physics  
  • Chemistry 
  • Business Studies
  • Travel and Tourism
  • Food and Nutrition
  • Principles of Accounts
 TOTAL 12 options.

IMPORTANT

1.To proceed to A-level a student must achieve an A, B or C grade at O-level in the subjects they wish to do at A-level.

 2.It is compulsory to achieve an A, B or C grade in O-level Maths and English to qualify for A-level.

  • General Paper (AS)
  • Art and Design

  • Accounts

 To pursue a COMMERCIAL CAREER OPTION

Students will follow the City and Guilds Diplomas course which includes the following:

English for Business Communication…….Level 1, 2, 3.

Business Studies………………………… Level 1, 2

Book-keeping and Accounts……………..Level 1, 2, 3.

Business Finance…………………………Level 1, 2, 3.

Office Procedures………………………...Level 1, 2, 3

IT - Word, Excel, Data ...............................Level 1, 2, 3

Text Production.........................………….Level 1, 2, 3

ESOL …………………………………….Level 1 - 7 ( English for Speakers of Other Languages.)
NOTE: 1. City and Guilds equivalencies to O- and A-level

 Level 1………………Grade 9

Level 2 ……………...O-Level

Level 3 ………………AS-Level

Level 4 ………………AS/A-Level.

2. Students who have the capacity are encouraged to follow both the academic and the commercial course.

3. Students will receive a Centro Educacional Njerenje certificate showing the Mozambican “equivalencia” to

Cambridge and City and Guilds passes.

4. Students proceed to each level at their own pace. As soon as a level is complete they proceed to the next.

They are not bound to a yearly time frame and can complete more than one level per year.
